How to reach Mumbai Airport?

The Mumbai Airport is spread over 1,850  acres in Andheri East, Mumbai 28km north of Mumbai. To make your travel to the airport easy and efficient, have a look at the different ways you can reach the airport.

  • By bus – A low-cost and efficient way to travel to the airport is via the bus service facility. There are various buses that operate from the Mumbai airport into the city and vice versa.
  • Metro –The Airport Road Metro station is the closest station to the airport. The metro operates from the city to the airport. It is located on Line 1 of the Mumbai metro. The distance between the metro station and the airport is approx. 1.4 Km.
  • Cabs/ taxis –There are a plethora of cab services that you can avail of to reach the airport on time. This post-paid and more comfortable service will ensure your safety and work around the clock. There are also pre-paid taxis available outside both terminals and it will take you at least one hour to reach the center of the city.
  • Train- The Western, Central Main, and Harbour Lines are the three lines that make up the Mumbai Suburban Railway Network, and they all link to different regions of the city. The station closest to Terminal 1 (Vile Parle) is in Santa Cruz, whereas the station closest to Terminal 2 (Andheri) is in Sahar. Both are easily accessible from the airport by bus or taxi.

IndiGo operates more than 100 daily non-stop flights between Mumbai and other key locations in India and abroad.

There are two terminals – domestic (Terminal 1) and international (Terminal 2) located in separate complexes in Santacruz and Sahar respectively.

Terminal 1

This terminal is exclusively for budgeted domestic airlines. It has 11 terminal boarding bridges. The handling capacity is 10 million passengers per year.

Terminal 2

This terminal is handling the international flights and some the domestic flights. It has an area of 210,000 sq. meters. It has 192 check-in counters and 60 immigration counters at departure, 14 baggage carousels, and 76 immigration counters at arrival.

How to move between Mumbai Airport terminals?

Terminal 1 - Terminal 2
  • T1 to T2 – Travel time is approximately 30 - 35 min. (External)
  • MIAL Shuttle service is right outside the arrival gate on your right-side OPP gate 2,
  • BEST service is available at the regular bus stand across gate 2
  • Taxi services including Uber/Ola can be booked at the arrival hall/via app. Exit the arrival hall and walk past the food court to reach the pick-up point.
  • To hire a rickshaw, exit the arrival hall, take a right and walk for around 150 m till the end of the departure terminal (gate 1) to reach the rickshaw stand.
  • At T2, Uber/Ola/Taxi drop points are opposite entry gate 6 for IndiGo’s domestic departures and opposite entry gate 7 for IndiGo’s international departures.
  • At T2, the rickshaw drop off point is at P5. Walk towards P6, take the lift to P6 arrivals, and walk past Starbucks. Take a right, use the escalator, and reach P10. Then, cross the road to reach entry gate 6 for IndiGo’s domestic flights and entry gate 7 for IndiGo’s international departures.
Terminal 2 - Terminal 1
  • T2 to T1 – Travel time via MIAL shuttle is approximately 25 - 30 min.
  • Exit the arrival hall and to go to level 4 (Towards the exit way)
  • BEST shuttle is at Level 6 ACROSS THE RICKSHAW stand near regular BUS stand
  • T2 to T1 – Travel time via Uber/Ola/Taxi is approximately 25 - 30 min. Exit the arrival hall and take right. Use the lift to arrive at P7 for the Ola pick up point (East side) and then take left. Use the lift to arrive at P7 for the Uber pick up point (West side).
  • Use the elevated road only. After exiting the elevated road, take the 2nd left towards drop point 1B terminal (entry gate 1) for IndiGo departures.
  • For prepaid taxis, book before exiting the arrival hall. Exit the arrival hall, take either of the elevators available on both ends to reach P4. Your taxi’s location will be shared by the prepaid taxi counter in-charge.
  • For rickshaw, exit the arrival hall and walk straight past Starbucks. Take the lift to P5 or the ramp. Rickshaw stand is available outside the terminal building.
Same Terminal
  • T1 – Connection time is 75 min. After reaching the arrival hall, take right from the IndiGo baggage service counter. Cross the transit point (Segregation gate) and use the lift to reach 1C terminal [Gates 21 - 25 (Aerobridge) and Gates 29 - 31 (Bus Boarding)].
  • T2 – After exiting the aircraft, walk towards the CISF check point. Take left for transfer flights and reach the departure security hold area. Do not cross the CISF check point, as no reverse entry is allowed.
  • In case the CISF check point is crossed, exit the baggage collection belt area, and take a right. Use the escalator, display your ticket to the CISF staff and use the escalator again. Walk straight to the security hold area for departures.
