Best time to visit

The best time to pack your bags for Fujairah is in the winter between November and March. Enjoy pleasant daytime weather with ample sunshine, occasional rainfalls, and cool nights. The following months of April through June have weather that might be too hot to handle, but they offer equally hot deals at luxurious hotels in Fujairah. July through October have temperatures hovering around 40 degrees Celsius, but also a great time to enjoy the beaches.

How to reach?

The city of Fujairah and the Emirate of Fujairah are well-connected with the rest of the UAE and the world.

By air: Reach Fujairah directly at the Fujairah International Airport (IATA: FJR) on IndiGo’s flights to Fujairah. The airport is located just 1.9 kilometres from the city centre. If you are flying in from outside the region, it might be convenient to arrive at other larger airports in the UAE, which have more direct international flights.

Arrive at Dubai International Airport (IATA: DXB) or the Sharjah International Airport (IATA: SHJ), at a distance of 109 kilometres and 101 kilometres respectively. Otherwise, arrive at Abu Dhabi International Airport (IATA: AUH) and fly off to Fujairah on a domestic flight.

By road: Fujairah is conveniently connected with other major cities in the UAE by road. Dubai is only a 2-hour drive away, and so is Sharjah. Private cabs are available for hire from major cities in the region.

Other than taxis, buses are also good, pocket-friendly alternatives. Regular buses run from Dubai to Union Square Station. Buses are also available from Sharjah, originating at Jubail Station, and other cities in the region. The journey takes nearly 2 hours to complete.

By metro: When travelling from Dubai, a metro might be a convenient public transport to reach the Union Square Station on the M2 line. From there onwards, take the direct bus to Fujairah.

Getting around: Both cabs and buses are readily available in Fujairah city at affordable fares. Several buses connect the entire city from the Fujairah bus station.

Places to visit in Fujairah

Fujairah offers a plethora of experiences spanning heritage to modernity. Here are some spots not to miss.

  • Fujairah Fort and Fujairah Heritage Village: Considered the oldest fort in the entire UAE, Fujairah Fort is a gateway into the historic foundations of the region. This yellow-hued massive fort was built in 1670 and has three main sections, including tall towers and several halls. The fort was historically used to serve as a defence unit, as well as a residence for the royals. Fujairah Fort, along with the adjoining Fujairah Museum and Fujairah Heritage Village, offers a glimpse of grandeur as well as the traditional lives of the people of the region.
  • Al Bidya Mosque: Another iconic architecture in Fujairah is the Al Bidya Mosque. It is the oldest functioning mosque in the UAE. Eye-catching and unique in its rugged features, uneven roof and tunnel-like entrance, the inside of the mosque is even more awe-inspiring. Admire the ancient and intricate Islamic architecture and the openings in the walls for natural light to illuminate the prayer room, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The area has other archaeological sites nearby, including petroglyphs.
  • Snoopy Island: Enjoy sunshine and plenty of activities at this popular island. Named after a popular cartoon character seemingly relaxing on its back, Snoopy Island offers a multitude of ways to enjoy the Gulf. Get a nice tan on the beach or enjoy a relaxing swim in the clear blue waters. Take a deep dive with your snorkelling guide to the colourfully chequered marine life amidst a shimmering reef. Level up on the water and enjoy watersports like yachting, kayaking or fly fishing.
  • Al Madhab Hot Springs: Located about 31 kilometres away from the city centre, it is the source of hot mineral springs. Soak in the warm therapeutic waters in one of two pools that the springs drain into. Stroll around or set up your picnic basket at one of the many serene spots in the surrounding area, which is a maintained park in the foothills of the Hajar mountains.
  • Kalba Corniche Park: Located close to the sea, this breezy and sprawling, well-maintained park is an ideal place for family picnics and spending a relaxing day. With kid-friendly playgrounds, access to the beach, and plenty of cafeterias and shops nearby, Kalba Corniche Park has quite an allure for locals and tourists alike.
  • Sheikh Zayed Mosque: The largest mosque in Fujairah and the second largest in the UAE, this mosque is inspired by the Blue Mosque of Istanbul, Turkey. Although general visitors are not allowed inside the compound of the mosque, the intricate exteriors, including 65 massive domes and 600 metres tall minarets surrounding the mosque, are a sight to behold. In the day, enjoy the mosque’s sprawling, well-manicured gardens and sparkling fountains and admire its sundown glow and lights in the evening.
  • Hajar Mountain Vistas: Pack your hiking gear and sunscreen and head north from Fujairah to the Hajar Mountains. The area has arid and rocky terrain and dry river beds, called ‘Wadis’, which offer great views and hiking adventures. Considered among the best of the gorges in the UAE, explore the longest valley at Wadi Ham or visit the picturesque Wadi Al Taiwan and Wadi Al Hayl.

Visa and Immigration

Just like any other Emirati state, travellers from India also need a UAE visa to visit Fujairah. Indian citizens have the option to get a single or multiple-entry UAE visa for various durations like 30 days, 60 days or even 90 days.

There is also a more convenient option for Indian citizens carrying a visa or permanent resident card from the US, UK or any other country in the European Union. If Indian passport holders have these additional immigration documents, then they are eligible to apply for a 14-day visa on arrival in Fujairah.

To apply for a UAE visa, Indian nationals will need a valid Indian passport and a self-photograph in passport size. Additionally, applicants will need to show proof of accommodation in the UAE, possess confirmed return tickets, and have enough funds to cover the expenses of the trip to Fujairah.
