The copies of your approval letter will be forwarded to the Vietnam Immigration checkpoints at three of Vietnam’s international airports: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, or Da Nang. That way, the immigration office will have your documents ready to issue your visa without much hassle.

  • Vietnam visa extension and renewal

If you want to extend your stay in Vietnam, make sure you do so before your visa expires. The completion of a visa extension may take up to a week to complete. You can apply for an extension or renewal at the Vietnam Immigration Department Office.

You can extend your stay in Vietnam by either extending your visa or renewing it, but what is the difference between a visa extension and renewal? Scroll below to find out.

    • Visa extension

An extension is basically increasing the duration of your stay beyond the intended number of days without having to exit the country and reapply for a visa. This is a good option as it is cheaper and more convenient than the renewal process.

The only criteria to follow is that the duration of the extension has to be at least as long as your current visa. For example, you can get an extension for a month if you have a visa for one month (single or multiple entry) or three months (single or multiple entry).

However, to request a three-month renewal, your current visa should have the validity of three months (single or multiple).

    • Visa renewal
      • This type of visa allows you a new visa stamp and sticker on your passport granting a new duration of your stay. On a renewed visa, your length of stay is for 3 months. Please note, that the cost of visa renewal is slightly higher than the cost of visa extension.
      • Visa renewal is for those individuals who enter Vietnam with a visa exemption
      • Your current visa does not meet the extension of stay requirement
      • If you want to upgrade your visa from 1 month to 3 months
      • If you want to upgrade your visa from single entry to multiple entry
