Eco-restoration of Sikanderpur Pond

As part of our initiatives for the environment, IndiGoReach, has undertaken the eco-restoration and conservation of a watershed area and water body at Sikanderpur, Gurugram. The Sikanderpur Pond was covered with water hyacinths and had become a dumping spot for sewage, garbage, and illegal encroachment by migrants.

The initiative is at present, focused on cleaning the waterbody of the filth and garbage..

The project, implemented in a phased manner, has undertaken the following steps so far:

Site cleaning and garbage removal

  • Removal of solid waste and sewage collection. Over 150 truckloads of plastic waste and garbage have been already taken out and sent to other landfill sites.

Waste Segregation

  • Manual segregation of garbage into plastic waste, debris, etc.

Disposal and reuse

  • Discarded construction materials have been used on the site to create embankments.
  • Plastic waste from the site has been reused in road construction

Site levelling and gradation of land

  • The site has been levelled with laying of the base material

The project, once completed, will contribute to the environment and will enhance the quality of life of people in the vicinity and also of those commuters using the area to reach the neighbouring metro station.
